Super Sonic
Super Sonic is the 'super' version of Sonic the Hedgehog, and has the ability to fly faster than Sonic's normal form, and is almost invulnerable to enemy attacks. Since 'Sonic the Hedgehog 2', Sonic has had the ability to transform into Super Sonic using the 7 Chaos Emeralds when they have all been collected. From that game, Super Sonic was only accessed after retrieving all emeralds from 'Special Stages', and also appeared to fight the Final Boss (the final boss being the most powerful).
When the Final Boss begins with Super Sonic, his transformation becomes limited as his Energy slowly begins to decrease. Rings act as his life support, and from 50 rings, one ring is taken away each second. As soon as the Ring counter reaches zero, Super Sonic eventually turns back into his normal form as Sonic. This results with a loss of one life, usually because Super Sonic takes on his battles where Sonic cannot survive. Like in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sonic took on Dr. Eggman in Outer Space. If Sonic lost his powers, he would crash land on earth, or end up floating through space (the same as Sonic Adventure 2). And in Sonic Adventure, against Perfect Chaos, Sonic battles across the waters. If Super Sonic lost his form, Sonic would fall into the water and drown because he cannot swim.
Super Sonic is always an unlockable character, facing against the toughest boss at the end of the game. But, he can also give off his energy to other characters such as Tails and Knuckles. In Sonic Heroes, Super Sonic gave off powerful energy that allowed Tails and Knuckles to gain Super powers. Forming a fire-like shield around them. This again happened in SONIC the Hedgehog '06, when Sonic was revived by Princess Elise, and transformed into Super Sonic... which gave off his energy to Shadow (forming Super Shadow) and Silver (forming Super Silver).
Some Sonic fans thought that the idea for 'Super Sonic' was taken from Dragon Ball Z when Goku transforms into Super Saiyan?
